Previously we have a post about Google Authorship showing that its features and help is more than having an image and name. And now Google will share some insights about the use of rel=”author”.
Some people are simply good in writing, blogging and weaving information to generate an informative, substantial, and useful piece of article. However, not all important authors are actually writing for a website that shows up in Google. That must be a reason why a question from Mike Wilton of Corona, CA was eagerly answered by Matt Cutts.
Definitely, it’s a yes from Matt Cutts. He’s even excited about the rel=”author” idea. He believed that credible people will continue to become one even if its outputs are put in a blog or forum. Though Matt Cutts is fine with anonymous writers, he values more those who can give themselves a real identity. He said it will be hard for spammers to hide in some anonymous corner. Therefore it is possible that a page, maybe from unknown sites, but written by a good and important author will show in SERP.
How can rel=”author” help Google in Spam Identification?
Below is Matt Cutts talking about the use of rel=”author”.
Why Matt Cutts wanted to establish the rel=”author” annotation? Google is working on user experience. If you just want to spam the internet, you wouldn’t waste your time writing for a useful and substantial article however, if you are aiming for it, you would deal time and researches to keep your users upbeat with the niche you are in. Certainly, this means that Google will soon be a library of resources where authors of different fields will be known.
How does I implement it on my campaign?
Understanding what Google wanted to achieve made me realize, as a real author, that it is giving me a chance to be known in SEO. I write my blogs and articles with utmost care and credibility. I always attach my name whenever I visit a blog or I write something. This is actually on my favor because Google will soon realize that I can be an “important author”.
What Change will it make to SEO?
Aside from indicating the annotation on every post or page, it will eliminate contents that are supposed to be not there. SEO is now focusing on user experience compelling a writer to writer better or else you will never be seen in SERP. It will be easier to detect spam because contents from good authors are distinguishable and web spammers will find it hard to hide with anonymity.
Identifying the author of the content is you just need to annotate your site with this format:
<a href=”profile_url?rel=author”>EXAMPLE TEXT</a>
Create a Google Plus profile and link your contents to it. So, start to create a content worth showing who you are.
Remember to use this attribute properly since Google is going to evaluate the use of rel=”author” since they have the main goal of producing quality and relevant results, therefore it is essential that the content is coming from a trusted or an author that has an established identity. If this attribute is use properly, it is truly helpful in judging a content.
